Staff artists brighten up hospital for Hunterbald
It’s that time of year again when Hunter New England Health staff show off their artistic ability in a bid to win the Hunterbald Prize - our answer to the Archibald.
The Hunterbald staff art competition is open to all Hunter New England Health staff and entries have come in from as far a field as Tamworth and Taree.
Hunterbald is in its seventh year and is part of the John Hunter Hospital’s Arts for Health program, which complements the hospital’s healing service by incorporating the arts into daily life.
John Hunter Hospital Arts for Health Coordinator Pippa Robinson said this year’s competition features 62 works of art from 21 staff members
“It’s been wonderful to see artistic contributions coming from staff in a variety of sectors of the health service,” Ms Robinson said.
“The exhibition showcases the wonderful talents of our staff and gives their colleagues and the community an opportunity to see another side of them.”
This year Gael Davies, the former Manager of Von Bertouch Galleries in Newcastle, judged the exhibition.
Winning entries will be awarded prizes from sponsors including Newcastle Permanent Building Society, Hospital Solutions and the John Hunter Hospital Newsagency.
The exhibition is on display at the John Hunter Hospital and Royal Newcastle Centre until late October.
