Lift refurbishment underway at Muswellbrook District Health Service
The refurbishment of the main elevator shaft at Muswellbrook District Health Service will mean some changes to public access. Alternative entry points will be in place at the Hospital over the coming months.
From Monday 27 August, there will be a number of relocated services and entrance points at Muswellbrook District Health Service as the elevator shaft is closed for a major upgrade.
Emergency department presentations, oncology patients, disabled people, visitors to the first or second floors, and all after-hours visitors should use the Brecht Street entrance to the health service from Monday 27 August.
Access to x-ray, renal dialysis, general information and admissions will not change.
Acting Upper Hunter Cluster General Manager Debbie Jaggers said the next 10 weeks would see the refurbishment of both the main lift at Muswellbrook District Health Service, as well as the Hospital’s chemotherapy unit.
“This is an exciting development for Muswellbrook District Health Service. The refurbished chemotherapy unit will be a relaxed, comfortable environment for chemotherapy patients, and the lift refurbishment will upgrade the facility to meet modern standards,” Dr Jaggers said.
Plans for the upgrades have been in place for 12 months and contingency plans are in place to deal with the access changes.
“Hunter New England Health has liaised with the Muswellbrook Shire Council as well as the NSW Ambulance Association to ensure services continue to operate smoothly during the refurbishment.
“All services will continue to operate from the hospital, however, some units, such as the Chemotherapy Unit, have been relocated within the hospital for accessibility and patient comfort.
“We thank the local community for their support and understanding during this time, and I’m sure the Upper Hunter community, as well as our staff, will be keenly anticipating the completion of this refurbishment,” Dr Jaggers said.
The lift closure is expected to be in place for seven to 10 weeks. Directional signage is in place at the health service, and additional parking is available from the Brecht Street entrance.
