A new fee for antenatal classes at Armidale

A small fee has been introduced at Armidale Hospital for people wishing to participate in the maternity unit’s six-week antenatal course.

From 24 September people wishing to join the program will pay $35 and be required to book a placement in the course prior to commencement.

Maternity ward Nurse Unit Manager Anna Broadbent said the introduction of the fee brings Armidale in line with other facilities in the region.

“We take enormous pride in the quality of antenatal advice and education our team can offer women and their families in the region,” Ms Broadbent said.

“The introduction of the $35 fee is designed to ensure we cover the costs associated with providing this service and ensuring its long-term viability.

“If anyone is experiencing financial hardship, we’ll look at their individual situation and help find a solution so they can access this important service.”

Ms Broadbent said people wishing to take part in the program will also be asked to make a booking.

“It is important that people participating in the course are at the right stage in their pregnancy and that all participants are at a similar stage to ensure the information provided has the most relevance.”

The antenatal course covers a broad range of topics including diet, exercise, relaxation and breathing techniques as well as information about birth, care and feeding of your baby.

For bookings please contact Armidale Hospital’s maternity unit on (02) 6776 9642. Payments need to be made to the cashier’s office.

Classes will still be held between 7pm and 9pm on Mondays.
