Stop and smell the roses - take time out for your health

Staff from Wee Waa Community Health will hold a Take Time Out for Your Health day on Thursday 28 June in the picturesque gardens of Little House on Rose in Wee Waa.

The free open day encourages people to drop into Little House on Rose for an insight into health promotion. Information will be available from 10am with a range of health experts on hand to answer questions and conduct free health assessments.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Coordinator Janelle Schwager said the day was an opportunity for staff and the community to discuss health and lifestyle issues away from the traditional clinical environment.

“We will have nurses and community health staff in the grounds of Little House on Rose. Come and introduce yourself and have a cup of tea with our health staff,” Ms Schwager said.

“It’s a great chance just to have a casual catch-up and discuss any health issues which might be on your mind.”

Staff will be available to discuss dietary advice, asthma, women’s health, Aboriginal health, diabetes, hearing, aged care, child and family health, men’s health, occupational therapy, speech pathology and heart health.

Information regarding similar community health programs will be available, along with details of workshops and health groups.

In addition, Tamworth-based Program Manager for Health Protection Peter Massey will be on hand to provide information about infectious diseases and immunisation.

Anyone wishing to have a brief health assessment conducted can have their blood pressure checked, blood glucose levels monitored, peak flow monitoring, oxygen saturation, waist measurements, and weight and height recorded.

All information and health checks are free, with morning tea and lunch to be provided by the Wee Waa Hospital Auxillary at a small cost.

Ms Schwager said a core outcome for the day was to promote a healthy work/life balance.

“Sometimes the best health advice we can offer is to take some time out of your day to relax, to stop and smell the roses.”

The day will commence at 10am, with staff available until 3pm for assessments. Little House on Rose is located on the corner of Rose and Church Streets, Wee Waa.
