Remembering our babies memorial service

When Tamworth registered nurse Maryann Parsons lost her unborn son in 2003 to a placental abruption she started a long and harrowing journey of grief and recovery that had an enormous impact on both her and her family.

The loss of a baby is an experience that is sadly shared by many in the community and Ms Parsons is organising a special memorial service for parents who have lost a baby to come together and pay tribute to their lost loved ones.

“As part of the memorial service we will invite people to read a poem or a letter to their child or lay a flower in the garden of remembrance,” Ms Parsons said.

“It is an opportunity for people who have shared a similar experience to come together and support each other and continue the healing process that follows such a tragic event in ones life.”

Ms Parsons said a support group also meets each month at St Stephen’s Presbyterian Church in Tamworth for parents who have lost a child.

“The support group is really informal and relaxed but it provides an opportunity for people to talk or just to hear about the experiences of others and hopefully gain strength in the knowledge that they are not alone.”

The Remembering our Babies memorial service will be held at the Never Never Garden outside the maternity ward at Tamworth Hospital on Friday 29 June at 10am.

Morning tea will be available after the service.
