Men of Tamworth challenge to put their bodies over the pits

Most men take an interest in maintaining their vehicles. How about their bodies?

The challenge is on for the men of Tamworth to see if they are still roadworthy and put their bodies through a thorough health check provided by Hunter New England Health’s Pit Stop program.

The Pit Stop program team has joined forces with Tamworth Rotary First Light to deliver the program at the West Tamworth Leagues Club on Thursday 21 June.

The Pit Stop is a free health check program for men run by Hunter New England Health’s Primary Health Care team.

According to Primary Health Care Worker Karen Northey, men are statistically the sickest group in society after the Aboriginal community, and are more likely to die of all selected causes than women.

“Pit Stop likens parts of the male anatomy to an engine. Men can have their oil levels (blood pressure) tested, spare tyre (girth) checked and asked if they check their ball bearings (testicles) regularly,” Ms Northey said.

“Using a mechanical concept brings an element of humour to men’s health and removes it from the clinical setting.

“We ensure we make ourselves easily accessible to the community by setting up the Pit Stop at convenient locations where local men often gather. We want to see as many men as possible visit our team on Thursday 21 June and take advantage of this very simple and effective health initiative.

“Come and see if you pass the pits with flying colours or need follow-up maintenance work.”

The Pit Stop program will run at the Tamworth West Leagues Club on Thursday 21 June from 3pm – 6pm. All health checks are free of charge.
