Newcastle Community Health Centre

The Newcastle Community Health Centre was officially opened by NSW Minister for Health, Reba Meagher on 1st November, 2007. The Newcastle Community Health Centre is located at 670 Hunter Street, in the heart of Newcastle's CBD.

The $24 million development is managed by Austcorp and was constructed by Abigroup, with Hunter New England Health occupying almost half of the five floors with more than 180 staff operating from the Centre.

This project saw the remaining ambulatory care (outpatient) services that were located at the Royal Newcastle Hospital move into a more appropriate community-based setting. Other community-based services also relocated from the existing Newcastle Health Centre and some Mental Health services.

The benefits of locating such services in a community-based setting such as this, includes co-location of like services for improved health care service delivery, incorporates improved accessibility for patients, and a lower cost of health care.

This site is positioned in a central location and is easily accessible by public transport, making it an ideal location for community-based health services.

The development is a major step in Hunter New England Health's $360 million Newcastle Strategy, a major capital works program to modernise health facilities in the area.
