Improvements to key health facilities in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie will help make sure the Hunter continues to be a world class leader of health services to both our local community members as well as people from other parts of NSW requiring specialist service health care.
Between 2000 and 2009, a $360 million package of improvements will take place to enhance health facilities in the Hunter region.
These include:
- Relocating services from the Royal Newcastle Hospital to:
- Purpose built Royal Newcastle Centre
- Purpose built Newcastle Community Health Centre
- An upgraded Belmont Hospital
- A redeveloped Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital and radiation oncology facilities
- Relocation of inpatient beds, and outpatient services from James Fletcher Hospital to a new purpose built facility on the mater site
- A second access road bulit on the Rankin Park Campus
The Newcastle Strategy is Stage 2 of the Hunter Strategy - our plan for the largest investment in health services in the Hunter.
