​Multicultural Health Liaison Program - Acute Care

The Multicultural Health Liaison team in Acute Care support staff who care for patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD) and the Deaf.

Their role includes

  • Visiting patients in the wards 

  • Checking that CALD patients and the Deaf understand diagnosis and treatment

  • Checking that professional health care interpreters are booked as required by NSW Health policy directives

  • Verifying documentation in relation to the attendance of interpreters

  • Providing cultural support for patients whenever appropriate

  • Checking patients’ satisfaction with care provided

  • Providing staff with information and contact details relating to available multicultural materials and support networks.​
