The John Hunter Hospital is the busiest Trauma Centre in New South Wales treating 402 severely injured (ISS >15) patients in 2004. It is the only Major (Level 1) Trauma Service outside Metropolitan Sydney. The John Hunter is the only combined adult and paediatric trauma centre in NSW. Our hospital provides primary and tertiary trauma services for an extended area of the Hunter, Mid North Coast and New England Area Health Services. The Hunter-New England Area Health Service covers 20% of the land size of New South Wales and contains 10% of the State’s population. The John Hunter Emergency Department treats in excess of 48 000 patients per/year 28% are admitted to the hospital and 25% of those are trauma admissions. | ||
