To prepare anaesthesia providers for managing a Can’t Intubate, Can’t Oxygenate (CICO) crisis


Using a combination of skills stations, facilitated discussions and scenario based learning, participants will develop and practise the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to recognise and manage the CICO crisis.  Topics include:

  • Review of available CICO guidelines
  • Decision making and recognition of the CICO crisis
  • Team response to CICO
  • Tips & techniques for performing needle cricothyroidotomy and surgical airway

This course promotes a team-based approach and anaesthesia assistants are encouraged to attend with their medical colleagues
