Immunisation Update Calendar for Registered Nurses

Authorised Nurse Immunises are authorised to initiate (assess client’s suitability) immunisation of individuals and adimister vaccine in accordance with the National Health & Medical Research Council’s recommendations. These recommendations are set out in the Australian Immunisation Handbook 9th edition.

It is each Authorised Nurse Immuniser’s legal responsibility to ensure that he/she at all times meets the authority’s requirements. Attendance at one session in a calendar year, together with annual CPR certification, ensures your responsibilities under this authority are met.

NOTE: It is your responsibility to register for a session. All registration enquires and lodgement of registration forms Adobe Acrobat Logo (pdf) 60 Kb should be directed to your nearest Population Health office (ie Tamworth, Taree or Wallsend). You should be registered at least one calendar month prior to the session you wish to attend.

Immunisation Education Calendar for Non-authorised Nurses & GP Practice Staff

Hunter New England Health in conjunction with the Divisions of General Practice provide education sessions for any practice staff who receives or handles vaccine consignments or gives basic immunisation advice to clients. This may be a registered nurse who is not authorised to immunise by authority of the NSW Poisons Act (that is, has not undertaken the College of Nursing immunisation course), an enrolled nurse, practice manager or receptionist.

Pre-authorisation Workshops Calendar

Hunter New England Health Immunisation Unit conducts free pre-authorisation workshops to assist & support those undertaking the College of Nursing Immunisation Course for Registered Nurses, by external study.

Objective

Practical support to understand requirements of the course questions, to enable completion in own your time to the standard required by the College of Nursing. The workshop will assist you to:

  • Understand and access relevant resources in order to adequately answer the questions
  • Identify key components of questions and what you should focus on in your responses
  • Understand referencing and academic writing to meet College of Nursing course requirements

Workshop Details

Hours – times may vary for different venues and the number of nurses in the group.  You will be notified of workshop length (1 or 2 days) when your registration is confirmed.

 

Course Registration

  • To enrol, please contact The College of Nursing directly. Send application form to The College of Nursing. Please note on registration form your preferred tutor as Christine Staples or Patrick Cashman. Both are Clinical Nurse Consultants and excellent educators and thoroughly aware of all immunisation issues and recommendations.
  • You will be required to send proof of current nurse’s registration and recent CPR certification with your application to the College
  • All workshop attendees must be enrolled in this course prior to commencement of the workshop to enable you to familiarise yourself with the course resource package.  This will further enhance your participation in the workshop
