We are refreshing how you will receive your Immunisation Education

Commencing in 2017, face-to-face immunization updates change to become more flexible and more convenient to support the growing number of immunisation providers.

The requirements for registered nurses and midwives to maintain their authority to provide immunization services are detailed in the policy directive Immunisation Services - Authority for Registered Nurses and Midwives - Document Number PD2015_011

During 2019 HNE PHU will be conducting Immunisation Education Session on 2019_Immunisation_Registration_Form.pdf

The specific requirements regarding immunization education are as follows:

  • Have a commitment to continuous self-education to ensure professional competence to practice as an immunisation service provider.
  • Annually review best practice policy for immunization to maintain authority to immunize. This may be, but is not limited to, attendance at updates or seminars on current practices.
  • HNE Population Health will assist you in meeting these requirements by providing the following new education strategy which will have two components.
  • An online package for information which does not vary regularly such as vaccine storage and anaphylaxis
  • Refer to 'To The Point newsletters' for up to the minute changes and reinforcement of messages.

In addition to the above we will conduct:

  • A local immunization conference in August 2019
  • A handful of traditional 4-hour face to face updates in distant rural areas for Authorised RN’s unable to travel to the conference.
  • A small number of face to face updates targeted at Authorised RN’s newly completed the College of Nursing course.
We hope this new arrangement will support all immunisation providers, including GPs in being current with immunisation matters in a more timely manner.

All self-directed continuing professional development (CPD) should be recorded.  Click here for the Nursing and Midwifery Board Evidence Record.
