The Greater Newcastle Community Forum on Health
The Greater Newcastle Community Forum on Health is an independent committee run by volunteers and established by Hunter New England Health to facilitate increased community engagement in the monitoring, planning, development and evaluation of health services. The Community Forum on Health members represent the communities of the Greater Newcastle region on health and quality issues and provide feedback to the Area Health Advisory Council on health service priorities and policies.
The role of the Community Forums on Health is to:
- Identify and raise health issues of local concern.
- Provide community input into ongoing Hunter New England Health planning and service development.
- Nominate community representatives for Hunter New England consultative groups.
- Provide a community perspective on health issues rather than the views of individuals.
- Provide information on health issues to the community.
- Encourage consumer advocacy and consumer perspective in public health care and development.

Our vision:
The vision of the Greater Newcastle Community Forum on Health is to actively involve consumers and communities in monitoring and providing advice on appropriate health outcomes; health service planning and policy.Our focus:
The focus of the Greater Newcastle Community Forum on Health is to achieve our vision through four approaches:
- Raising awareness of what we do.
- Citizens advocacy through letters of support or complaint
- Assistance and comments to Hunter New England Health on regional planning.
- Financial assistance for events and projects that fit with the Forum's vision.
The Forum places an importance on structural gaps raised by consumers with an emphasis on their solutions to the unmet needs.
Our outcome:
To improve the health of the people of the Greater Newcastle region and ultimately the people of the Hunter New England Health region.
