Rural Carer Support
Rural carers can often find themselves geographically isolated with limited access to existing services. EDuCARE is in the early stages of networking and consultation to overcome this issue. Look out for our rural one day workshops held in various locations throughout the Lower and Upper Hunter.
EDuCare is currently developing a Country Carers Kit for rural areas to use as a resource for rural carers to utilise when attending appointments within the Hunter New England Area Health Service.
EDuCARE plans to work with staff to raise the awareness of the needs of the rural carer. A working party including EDuCARE Support Service and rural carers is currently being implemented..
Young Carers
EDuCARE provides support to young people aged between 8 -18 years residing within the Hunter. There are approximately 170,000 under the age of 18 in Australia, although this number is under-estimated because Young Carers remain hidden and not always formally identified (Carers NSW 2005). Young Carers usually have more responsibilities than other young people of their age and sometimes they share this role with other family members. The effects of caring have a huge impact on education, social, emotional and physical development often leading to stress, few friends and feelings of loneliness. EDuCARE offers support to these young people.
