Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Management
Clinical Governance is working in collaboration with Hunter New England Nursing and Midwifery, who are leading an organisation-wide strategy to reduce the risk of hospital acquired pressure ulcers and improve wound management.
During 2008-2009 this Strategy established an approach that involved:
- HNE Health Committee comprised of clinicians and managers
- Standardised risk assessment and electronic audit tools
- Annual Prevalence Audits
- Review of the requirements for purchasing and maintaining pressure relieving equipment, Policies and Procedures.
- Standardised online education programs
- The repeat HNE Health Point Prevalence Surveillance was undertaken between September and November 2009. This survey included all community health centres in addition to inpatient facilities
The HNE Health Pressure Ulcer Prevention Committee is led by the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services and supported by a Project Officer who has coordinated area wide prevalence audits to identify risks throughout HNE Health.
