Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapist aims to enable people who are disabled or frail aged to live in their home environment safely and independently.
Occupational Therapy is a health profession concerned with a person’s performance of daily activities.
Occupational Therapy aims to enhance a person's level of functioning and independence:
- at home
- in caring for yourself and others
- at work or school
- in recreational activities
- in the community
What we do
- Assess the ability of a person to complete everyday tasks in their home and community
- Provide rehabilitation so that people can perform daily tasks the best that they can
- Advise on home modifications in conjunction with the client and / or family eg. Ramp, rails, bathroom modifications to increase safety and independence.
- Liaise with appropriate organisations to implement recommendations eg. Home modification services
- Liaise with other health professionals and community support services
- Provide education to assist people to manage the impact of disability on their daily life
- Assist safe early discharge from hospital
- Prescribe and / or recommend equipment (eg. Wheelchairs) and assistive devices (eg. Adapted cutlery) to maximise safety and independence
