Nutrition and Dietetics

What is Nutrition and Dietetics?

Dietitians (also called nutritionists) are the experts in food and nutritional requirements in health and disease.

Dietitians work in a number of settings - hospitals, community health centres, nursing homes, public health, industry and private practices. In the Hunter Area dietitians are mostly found in hospitals and community health centres.

Dietitians can advise about nutritional requirements for healthy people throughout the life cycle, or those with special requirements such as athletes or people with medical conditions. Dietitians are experts in assessing peoples' nutritional status, and can advise people or their carers on how to best meet their nutritional needs.
