Strategic Health Service Development, Planning and Monitoring

The major sources of advice to the Chief Executive on issues relating to health service development, planning and monitoring are the:

This is set out in the terms of reference of both the Area Clinical Council and Area Health Advisory Council.

Hunter New England Health will develop the overall framework for strategic planning in consultation with the Area Clinical Council and Area Health Advisory Council. The Councils' advice regarding the final framework will be sought before the framework is approved by the Chief Executive (Step 1 in the flowchart below) .

Hunter New England Health will then develop individual service plans in line with the overarching framework. Every health service plan will encompass acute services, community-based services and population health programs.

Clinical and community stakeholders will be engaged in the process for developing individual health service plans. This will include seeking advice from the Area Health Advisory Council and Area Clinical Councils, the Aboriginal Health Partnership Committee, GP Advisory Committee and other groups (to be determined by plan scope) (Step 3 in the flowchart below).

The Councils' advice on individual health service plans will be sought before they are approved by the Chief Executive (Step 4 in the flowchart below).

Through these processes, Hunter New England Health will ensure clinical and community stakeholders are actively engaged in health service development, planning and monitoring; and that there are direct channels for peak groups to provide direct advice to the Chief Executive on health service planning matters.
