These Advisory Committees will undertake the non-operational role of providing advice to the Local Health Service Manager on local health service needs, service planning and community consultation. In addition Advisory Committee members would utilise their local knowledge and networks to foster two-way communication between the local Health Service and the community on these issues, as well as population health issues, particularly focusing on wellness.
The secretariat functions for the Advisory Committees are the accountability of local Health Service Managers. Appropriate clinicians would be invited to participate in the Advisory Committees. Action minutes for each meeting would be forwarded to the Local Health Service Manager's manager and to the Communication Account Manager will make minutes available to the members of the Health Forums via email and the Hunter New England Health website.
Where agenda items included a population health issue, a member of the Population Health team will also attend the meeting, either in person or by broadband videoconference.
The local Health Service Manager will be accountable for carrying out actions or resolving issues arising from the meetings, with a line of escalation through the normal reporting structure.
Outcomes would be reported back to the Committees by the Local Health Service Manager.
For further information, see the Terms of Reference for Local Health Advisory Committees which includes a description of obligations of Local Health Service Managers, Health Service Advisory Committee Members and Communication Officers.
