Nominations open for Healing Heart Nursing and Midwifery Award

Nominations for the ‘peoples’ choice’ award at this year’s NSW Health Excellence in Nursing & Midwifery Awards have officially opened.

The Healing Heart Award is nominated by patients, families or carers, and honours a nurse or midwife for providing exceptional care.

Elizabeth Grist, Executive Director, Clinical Services and Nursing and Midwifery, Hunter New England Local Health District said the Healing Heart Award recognises excellence among NSW Health nurses and midwives, and the impact of exceptional care for people across the State.

“The Healing Heart Award is a chance for the people of Hunter New England Health to extend their heartfelt thanks to the best in our professions,” Ms Grist said.

The annual awards ceremony was put on hold due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The awards are a highlight of our calendar, but this year instead of a live event held in Sydney, we will be broadcasting the show to the nurses and midwives wherever they are in NSW with a virtual format in November,” NSW Chief Nurse and Midwife Officer, Jacqui Cross said.

“The virtual show will be entertaining and meaningful. We will have six District -nominated awards this year, plus the Healing Heart Award,” Ms Cross said.

For the Healing Heart Award, patients, families and carers are invited to nominate a nurse or midwife who made their healthcare experience special by visiting the NSW Health website at health.nsw.gov.au/nursing/enma. Nominations close on 27 July 2020.

The awards carry special significance in 2020, being the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. We recognise and celebrate nurses and midwives for the skill, leadership and compassionate care they contribute to people and the broader health system every day.

“We will create an awards show experience that will be special, unforgettable and quite specific to the extraordinary year we’re all experiencing,” Ms Cross said.

The Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards 2020 will be shown on November 26, with more details to come closer to the date.
