Information for children, young people and families visiting John Hunter Children’s Hospital has been made a little easier with the launch of a free app to guide them around the hospital.
The app provides information on wards, units and outpatient areas, with advice on such things as what to do if your child appears to be in pain, admission and discharge, along with pictures to guide families through the journey.
Families will also be able to navigate to information on other hospital services and amenities.
For families not from the area, maps have been imbedded showing accommodation, dining and transport options.
The idea for the app came from the newly established Children, Young People and Families Family Advisory Council.
Co-Chair Liz Geddes said for a tech savvy generation the free app is easily accessible and in preference to previous paper based guides.
‘As a group of parents on the Family Advisory Council we recognised we could improve the hospital experience by providing relevant information,’ Ms Geddes said.
‘Working alongside Hunter New England Health we have developed a practical guide for parents to support them through what can be a difficult time,’ she said.
Those who download the app will also be able to receive useful health notifications directly from Hunter New England Health, such as information on upcoming immunisation clinics.
