Accommodation

About our accommodation

John Hunter Hospital has accommodation available for relatives or patients travelling long distances (greater than 100km).

These units provide a comfortable environment close by for families of patients requiring treatment at John Hunter Hospital.

Our facilities are intended to be used and respected as a home away from home. Most rooms accommodate two people and there are two family rooms which accommodate up to four people. We also have one disabled room.

People using the accommodation need to be ambulant or have a carer with them, as it is approximately 200 meters between the accommodation and the hospital, involving a walk up and down a hill.

Guests have free use of:

  • Refrigerators
  • Tea and coffee making facilities
  • Cooking facilities (you do need to supply your own food)
  • Comfortable lounges and TV facilities
  • All linen is supplied
  • Laundry facilities

Uncle Bob’s Yallarwah Place offers a place for relatives of indigenous patients to stay while their family member is in hospital on this campus. “Yallarwah” means “Resting Place” in Awabakal language.

The “Yallarwah Bush Walk” is a short, peaceful, walking trail behind the accommodation facilities.  The stone-edged track is located in the bushland adjacent to Uncle Bob’s Yallarwah Place. Upgraded in 2014 in partnership with HMRI, the walk is intended to provide a place for quiet contemplation for anyone associated with the hospital.

Due to high demand, only one room is permitted per family and extended stays must be negotiated with the Accommodation Manager. While every effort is made to meet the needs of families and carers requiring accommodation, we have a limited number of rooms and cannot guarantee the availability of on-site accommodation.

Where possible, advance bookings are advisable. We ask that you confirm your advance booking two days prior to arrival, as sometimes room may not be available due to unforeseen circumstances.

Emergency arrivals after business hours will be arranged by the After Hours Manager who can be contacted through the Security Office near the hospital entrance on level 2.
