The Infusion Lounge is an outpatient area housing 12 spaces for the undertaking of infusions for our patients.
Patients are referred to the Infusion Lounge by a medical specialist. Infusions are conducted to manage many different conditions including immune deficiencies, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, Crohn’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.
Depending on the medication to be administered, infusions can take from 30 minutes to seven hours. Some infusions carry a small risk of an adverse reaction and, in these instances, the patient may be required to stay in the Infusion Lounge for a while after the infusion is completed for monitoring by our nursing staff.
Other services use the Infusion Lounge from time to time, including the allergy service for allergen testing and desensitisation, and the nurse PICC Insertion Team for placing peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs).
The Infusion Lounge is open Monday to Friday, 7.30am – 4.30pm.
