Gynaecology

About Us

The John Hunter Hospital Gynaecology services are located in Ward K3. K3 is a 12 bed unit providing health care specific to the needs of women. Our services encompass two streams, General Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology.

Each of these services are supported by doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. These multidisciplinary teams provide comprehensive diagnostic assessment, treatment and support for women with gynaecological issues.

The Gynae-Oncology service is known as the Hunter New England Centre for Gynaecological Cancer. It is one of six such units in the state of NSW, and receives referrals from throughout the state.

Outpatient care for women is provided in our Gynaecology Clinics. Our clinics offer a range of gynaecological services including:

  • General gynaecology
  • Colposcopy
  • Outpatient Hysteroscopy
  • Infertility
  • Menopause / peri-menopausal issues
  • Vulval conditions.

The Gynaecology Clinic operates five days a week (Monday to Friday) at John Hunter Hospital, and weekly at Belmont Hospital. Access to the Gynaecology Clinic is by referral from a general practitioner to a named staff specialist. Referrals for gynaecology appointments should be faxed to the Outpatients Service on (02) 4922 3905. Once the referral is received, it is triaged and an appropriately timed appointment will be allocated. Patients will be notified by mail of their appointment date and time.
