Antenatal Clinic and Maternal Fetal Medicine
The John Hunter Hospital Antenatal Clinic is a service dedicated to the provision of high quality antenatal care to pregnant women.
A full range of antenatal care is offered at the JHH Antenatal Clinic. Specialist Obstetricians provide care for women who have pregnancies complicated by:
A previous pregnancy requiring specialist care and / or hospitalisation
A pregnancy that is not progressing normally
A multiple pregnancy, e.g. twins
Diabetes and / or other conditions.
The Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit (MFMU) is a service dedicated to caring for pregnant women living in the Hunter New England Local Health District, Northern and Western NSW. It is the only MFMU outside of Sydney and north to Brisbane.
The MFMU offers multidisciplinary expert screening, diagnostic and therapeutic services and ongoing management for women whose pregnancy is significantly complicated by maternal and / or fetal conditions.
The MFMU offers referral to other specialties and disciplines for counselling and information, and facilitates transition into ongoing care once the baby is born.
The multidisciplinary team consists of Obstetricians, Sonographers, Doctors specialising in Neonatology, Cardiology, Immunology, Haematology, Radiography, Genetics and Paediatric Surgery, Allied Health, and Clinical Midwifery Specialists.
