Muswellbrook Hospital is a Baby Friendly Accredited Hospital. Baby friendly accreditation is a quality assurance measure that demonstrates our hospotal's commitment to ensuring we provide best-practice care and maintain a breastfeeding-supportive environment. All Baby Friendly hospotals must comply with the global standard, "Ten Steps to successful Breastfeeding" which were established by the World Health Oranisation (WHO) and UNICEF.
The Muswellbrook Hospital maternity unit has nine beds and two birthing rooms. The Hospital provides care for well women and babies born after 37 weeks gestation. The team of midwives at Muswellbrook includes three lactation consultants.

Visiting hours in Muswellbrook Hospital are usually flexible but we encourage all visitors to respect the rest period for mothers and babies between 1pm and 3pm.
Birth and parenting classes are held on a regular basis, women have the choice of two Saturday sessions or five weekly two-hour sessions.
There is also a breastfeeding class.

Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS)
An Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS) provides culturally appropriate antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to women who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or non-Aboriginal women who are pregnant and having an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander baby.
