Glen Innes Hospital
Glen Innes Hospital has a four-bed maternity unit with one birthing room.
The Glen Innes maternity service offers care to women in the Glen Innes and surrounding district including Emmaville, Tenterfield and outlying areas.
Models of care offered
- Part-time Aboriginal Mothers and Babies Team antenatal/postnatal service (based at Inverell)
- Midwifery Group Practice A new midwifery service has just been developed in Glen Innes and now midwives provide care in collaboration with your chosen GP obstetrician through pregnancy, labour/birth and after the birth of your baby. A schedule of visits will be arranged according to woman’s needs-some with the midwives and some with your GP obstetrician. This gives you the opportunity to get know the midwives and the GP obstetricians that will be caring for you and your family. The service is called Glen Innes Midwifery Service.
- GP Obstetrician care which includes antenatal care in the doctor’s rooms, labour, birth and postnatal care in hospital
Home maternity service
Our home maternity service gives women the option of going home within a few hours after they have had their baby. Home visits or supportive phone calls occur up until the baby is five days old. Home visiting is available to most women and is free of charge.
Parenting education classes
We run antenatal classes three times a year in February, June and October. These classes are free of charge and are held on a Tuesday night for two-hours over a four week period at the hospital.
To make an appointment for classes please ring the maternity unit on 67390226.
