Manning Rural Referral Hospital

Manning Rural Referral Hospital – Taree, is an acute Hospital providing a broad range of specialist services to the residents of the Greater Taree, Great Lakes and Gloucester local government areas.

The hospital operates 160 beds including 20 Mental Health beds and provides a broad range of specialist services.  It is a public hospital serving the local communities of Taree, Forster, Tuncurry and surrounding districts. Our services include general medical and surgical wards, as well as general surgery, ophthalmic, urology, paediatrics, Gynaecology and obstetrics, dental, bronchoscopes, endoscopy, TOES, Electro Convulsive Therapy(ECT), and emergency surgery (trauma, triple A). There is also a renal dialysis unit, and other services such as orthopaedics, vascular surgery, intensive care/coronary care, peri operative (operating theatre, recovery and day only), paediatrics, maternity, oncology and a new state of the art emergency department.

The hospital has specialist wards/units for Surgery, Day Surgery, General Medicine, Critical Care, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Emergency Services, Oncology, Palliative Care, Rehabilitation, High Dependency Nursing and Mental Health.   These facilities are backed up by a broad range of diagnostic and allied health services including Mental Health Service.

Hours of Operation: Manning Hospital operates 24 hours a day, 365 day a year providing Emergency and Inpatient services. Outpatient and Administration services operate from 8:00am - 5:00pm weekdays.

Visiting hours: Visiting hours are 10:00am to 1:00pm, and 3:00pm to 8:00pm. Specialty areas such as Maternity and Intensive Care vary.

Parking: Car parking is available in York, High and Pulteney Streets, as well as the car park in front of the Community Health Centre off Pulteney Street. Visitors are not permitted to park directly in front of the hospital at any time. Incoming patients may alight from vehicles at the front entrance of the Hospital.

Disabled access: There are four (4) disabled car parks at the front of the hospital, as well as two (2) in York Street; twelve (12) 2-hour clinic patient car parks under the mental health unit and ten (10) 2-hour visitors parking in York Street alongside the hospital entrance.

Auxiliary services and volunteers: The Manning Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) are located in the Kiosk at the front foyer of the Hospital. All funds raised at the Kiosk are used to improve hospital facilities or purchase equipment.


Community Health Centre

Taree Community Health Centre offers a range of community based health services to all members of the community. Support services available include:

  • Aboriginal Health
  • Aged Care Support
  • Audiometry
  • Centre Drug & Alcohol Services
  • HIV / Hepatitis C & Sexual Health
  • Mental Health
  • Nursing

Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm.


Manning Mental Health Service

Manning Mental Health Service comprises a 20-bed acute Mental Health In-Patient Unit located on the Manning Rural Referral Hospital Campus as well as a range of Community Mental Health Services based at Taree, Forster, Gloucester and Bulahdelah. Services provided include general adult, child and adolescent, mental health services for older people and rehabilitation.

Hours of operation: 8am-10pm with extended hours service provided through the Manning Rural Referral Hospital Emergency Department

Visiting Hours: Visiting hours are 11am to 8pm and by negotiation with staff in exceptional circumstances

Parking: Parking available in hospital car park

Disabled access: Yes - Most services are provided on ground level, ramps and lift available in Community Health Centre
